Leisure activity 1

The Nightlife in Barcelona is nothing short of exhausting. Every night of the week there is something new and amazing going on somewhere in the city and finding the best clubs with the best music every single night is a challenge but when successful it is well worth it. Barcelona seems to have everything that any partier could want no matter what kind of experience you are looking for on any single night. You can find anything from huge clubs which open right up to the beach to hidden clubs which lie deep within the Barcelonan underground. Bars that take up many floors of a building to bars which lie hidden below the streets of Barcelona as if to remain hidden to only those who have been there before.
Regardless of where you go there are two certainties. For one the alcohol will not run out for as long as you are there, it seems that it would take entire legions of boozing soldiers in order to drink the clubs of Barcelona dry. And the second certainty is that each place will offer its own charm and anyone who decides to go will have a good time.
Many of the drinks served in these clubs, the likes of which I have never seen before, seem to be recopies past down from the ancient days of Barcelona. Hundreds of years of mixology, the techniques and styles of which, are passed down from bartender to bartender each adapting the drink to their own styles and releasing them on the world. The colors, flavors and mixtures of these drinks are nothing short of genius and all seem to be conjured in a caldron while magical potions of old are cast upon them.

Dave Matthews Concert

A few weeks ago I went to London for a Dave Matthews Band concert. In case you don’t know who Dave Matthews is he is a very popular rock band from the united states. At the time he was playing the O2 arena which is the arena that Michael Jackson was planning on playing his final show in. First we pre-gamed for the concert in our hostel with some of the other people we had met there at the time. We then caught two cabs and too the 45 minute drive to the outskirts of London where the arena is. Now it may be called an arena but is more like a mega mall filled with shops, restaurants, clubs which all surround an enormous concert hall. The concert was amazing. We stood in the standing room section in front of the stage filled with thousands of other fans. It was packed and the concert was amazing. We all had a great time. After the concert we hit up one of the bars that was outside of the arena. It was full of fans who couldn’t stop talking about the amazing concert they had just seen. After we finished out beers we decided it was about time to head out and see what the London night life had to offer. We took the 45 minute cab right back into center town; I fell asleep during the ride. After that we went to a club we had heard about called O’Neal’s which was amazing. It was a three story club in the middle of London and all of us had a great time.

Carnival in Sigtes

Carnival in Sigtes
I went to Carnival last night and can safely say that it was one of the most eye opening experiences of my life. The lights, the sounds, the people, the costumes; literally every part of it opened my eyes to a new way of living and a new culture with completely different ideals and customs from the one that I grew up in and am used to. Never have I experienced an atmosphere that was cohesive and driven towards one goal; to have fun. People were running around in an alcohol induced frenzy hell bent on having fun and not letting anything stop them from their goal. The alcohol was flowing steadily from every bottle, restaurant, pub, house and most surprisingly float that could be seen within a mile in every direction. The rain only added to the mayhem by providing everyone with a refreshingly cool stimulant which aided people in continuing their partying long into the night. If one were to travel onto the beach you would find hundreds of people stretched far along the boardwalk and sand singing and dancing with no cares in the world. Everyone dressed in home made and extremely intricate costumes that would put any American Halloween costume to absolute shame.
People could be seen everywhere; in the street, on balconies, on the beach, in clubs and so on. People, made up in costumes from the bottoms of their feet to the very tops of their heads, seemed to be pouring out of every orifice the city had onto the streets. The confetti and glitter was flying high in the air as countless amounts of sparklers and miniature fireworks went off all around you at every moment. Perhaps the most surprising part of this trip was the types of people that I came into contact with while roaming the streets. There were men, women, old, young, fat, skinny, handsom and some not so handsome all around me. There where people of every different type and make and every costume seemed to be more ridiculous, offensive and risqué than the last.
Overall this experience was mind boggling and I would not have traded it for anything. To see hundreds, if not a few thousand, people partying in the streets of this otherwise peaceful and rather small town was a site I would encourage everyone to see at some point in their life and I am sure that this will be one that I will never forget about my semester abroad in Barcelona.
